WWL-TV is the local CBS affiliate in the greater New Orleans area. Owned by TEGNA Inc., the station airs on channel 4. According to their Web site, WWL-TV is "the number-one CBS affiliate in the top 100 markets in the country and the top affiliate of any network in the nation's 50 biggest markets in the share of the audience it attracts." The call letters WWL have been around since 1922. That's when the Gulf South's first AM radio broadcast took place. WWL-AM later joined the Columbia Broadcasting System in 1935. The team of anchors and reporters are experienced in providing news to its viewers. WWL-TV has won numerous awards including five Peabody Awards and two Edward R. Murrow Awards. WWL-TV's newscasts can also be seen 24-hours a day on NewsWatch 15, the station's region cable sister-outlet.
