WRGB-TV is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. and broadcasts syndicated programming from the CBS network and produces local shows and news. WRGB-TV was created on January 13, 1928 when the first television program was broadcast and shown in Dr. Ernst Alexanderson's home. On May 10, 1928 WRGB-TV broadcast the first regular television program with the world's first television newscast. The station was first called W2XB but was referred to as WGY-TV, the same call letters of their radio sister station. Soon after, the station became WRGB-TV and helped create the first television network in January 12, 1940 with NBC. In the 1950's WRGB-TV began televising programs for four television networks; NBC, CBS, ABC, and Dumont. In September of 1981 WRGB-TV became a full-time CBS affiliate and in 1986 Freedom Newspapers, Inc. purchased the station from Forstmann Little & Company, who had bought the station just two years prior from General Electric. PR professionals should send press releases to the assignment desk via fax.
