Background and Format: Foods Matter is an independent informational website and allergy portal which grew out of a monthly printed magazine. Foods Matter magazine started as a free quarterly and in 2000 it became a subscription only, patient-support magazine. At the end of 2009 the Foods Matter magazine ceased to exist - giving way to the FoodsMatter website. It is a resource for food-related allergy and intolerance, and all the health conditions in which they are involved. Audience and Readership: The website is aimed at those with allergies and intolerances and health professionals dealing with food allergy and intolerance. Articles focus on food, nutrition, fashion, beauty, relationships, home decorating, health, child care, and other consumer and social issues. Each issue delivers a unique mix of inspirational and personal stories, trusted information, and closely researched investigations and reports. Also there are tips for getting organized, and recipes for quick, healthy meals. While they don't designate a part of the magazine for green coverage they do take environmental considerations into account throughout each issue, so pitch accordingly. When sending green products be sure that they save readers time and money. Pitch recycling topics and remember that value and quality are most important to readers. Avoid sending too many luxury items as they rarely, if ever, cover luxury goods or services. When pitching products always be mindful of the staffs' deadlines. They typically work three to four months in advance. Be sure to include price, availability and other pertinent shopping details.
