The topline of the sell-in should always try and hook 5 News and the viewer into the story. 5 News is interested in real people and individuals behind the big stories and that means different news beats are covered compared to other channels. How relevant is the pitch to the 5 News audience and the news of the day? Watch and understand the show. Think visually – TV is a visual medium – if you have an Olympic cycling guest can they be filmed in a velodrome? Consider how it will look. 5News stress that unless the story is relevant to the day’s news it is always best to approach planning as the newsdesk are constantly busy. Planning meetings -  daily at 7.30 - 8am and 8.30 - 9am The planning team have a weekly meeting at 11am on Wednesdays to plan the general news stories for the forthcoming week.
