About
Bio
AP Radio offers coverage of news, sports, business news, political news, technology news, entertainment and weather. News, analysts and experts should first be pitched to local or regional bureaus before the national network.
More than 1,000 U.S. media Web sites and 4,500 television and radio stations depend on the Associated Press for text stories, audio, video, graphics and photo services for building their on-air and online products and services. Founded in 1848, AP is the world's oldest and largest newsgathering organization, serving more than 15,000 news outlets worldwide. Today, AP employs more than 3,500 staffers in 240 bureaus, with its broadcast division based in Washington, D.C.
In September 2005, Associated Press Broadcast re-launched its audio news network (AP Radio News) with a new sound, new anchors, and sweeping changes to its newscasts, online actuality service(AP PrimeCuts), Live Special Reports, and Crisis Coverage. The 24-hour audio network also features up to three newscasts an hour, up to four live special reports an hour, more natural sound, expanded cut feeds, up to three long-form live channels and contemporary new on-air sound.
News, analysts and experts should first be pitched to local or regional bureaus before the national network. Contacts for stories should be qualified spokespeople who have a high position in the company, not a PR representative speaking for someone else. Include contact information for all sources, including when they are available. Give one-week advance notice for big events. Phone pitches should get to the point within 15 seconds.
Send calendar materials to daybook@ap.org. Press releases are best sent to wdcdesk@ap.org.
