It published leading writers' commentary on abolition, education, and other major issues in contemporary political affairs. The magazine's founders were a group of prominent writers of national reputation, who included Harriet Beecher Stowe, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., John Greenleaf Whittier and James Russell Lowell. Lowell was its first editor.

Quarterly PENTA section — intended for individuals with at least five million dollars in assets — contains trusted financial advice on topics ranging from personal finance to lifestyle concerns. The publication is divided into four sections: - Technology Week - focuses on technology companies - Market Week - Provides coverage on what happened in the markets the previous week - Mutual Funds - Coverage on the Mutual Funds industry - The Wrap - Ties in the previous three sections Barron's special reports DO NOT have specific contacts, contact any senior editor on the masthead for direction. Subscribers receive the paper on Saturday mornings but the wide issue day is on Mondays. They close the issue on Fridays. Barron's DOES accept by-lined articles/submissions. They can be placed in the main publication or in the "Other Voices" column. Make sure you begin the submissions process weeks in advance since the stories are non-urgent and must be squared away well before the deadlines.
