Background and format:
Smooth Radio is a network of adult contemporary local radio stations broadcasting on FM and AM stations in England and Scotland. Launched in March 2014, they replaced the national Smooth Radio that had launched in 2010 on FM, and most outlets of Gold on AM. Smooth Scotland carries local breakfast and drivetime shows on weekdays, and four hours local a day at weekends, with the remainder of programming fed from Leicester Square, London. Each show play pop music from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s and local and international news. The station is available on 105.2 FM in Glasgow, DAB in Edinburgh, Digital Radio and Online.

GMG Radio is to rebrand the Saga Radio stations as Smooth Radio from the middle of March this year. The group will also drop the ‘fm’ part of the name across its current two smooth fm stations in London and the North West. GMG announced in December that it had agreed to purchase the Saga Radio stations for an undisclosed sum, but the acquisition is only formally completed this week. GMG Radio, which also bought the two Century stations from GCap Media last October, will now operate four brands in its stable: Real Radio, Century FM, Smooth Radio and the recently launch 96.3 Rock Radio in Scotland.
