Alerts: Gorkana Alert: Tuesday 25 February 2014 From March, Smooth Radio relaunches as ‘Your Relaxing Music Mix’. Kate Garraway, Andrew Castle and Myleene Klass join Tina Hobley and other Smooth presenters as the station re-launches and prepares to extend its reach with the following national line-up: Kate Garraway will join from 3 March when she starts her mid-morning weekday show, which will be broadcast across the network from 10am to 1pm. Andrew Castle will host the weekday Breakfast show, with four hours of music and chat from 6am to 10am. Andrew will also interview a celebrity every Sunday evening, on ‘Andrew Castle Meets’, which will also be broadcast across the network. Myleene Klass will present the Saturday morning show each week from 10am to 2pm. Myleene will continue to present on Saturdays and Sundays at 10pm to 1am on Classic FM. Completing the national line-up, Paul Phear will present weekday afternoons. Anthony Davis, who recently took up his new slot, remains on Drive (4pm to 8pm). He will also host a new show the ‘Great American Songbook’ on Sunday evenings. Chris Skinner will present ‘The Smooth Sanctuary’ and a new show on Saturday nights the ‘Great British Song Book’. Tina Hobley will continue to present the Sunday mid-morning show from 9am to 12 noon. It is the leading radio company in Ireland and was the successful acquirer in a competitive sales process and has been approved by the Competition Commission as a suitable owner of the divested stations. The stations that Global has sold to Communicorp are Capital South Wales, Capital Scotland, Smooth East Midlands, Smooth North West, Smooth North East. Real North Wales, Real Yorkshire and Real XS Manchester. All stations required to be divested by the CC are being sold in one deal. The stations have been sold on a brand licence model which means that Global has licensed its award winning brands to Communicorp. As a result of the deal all existing Real stations will be relaunched as Heart. In addition the Capital network will be enhanced with a new station in North Wales. Smooth will grow to become the fourth largest radio brand in the UK, behind Capital, Heart and Classic FM. Stephen Miron, Global’s Group CEO said: “We are delighted to have agreed this deal with Communicorp so quickly. Most importantly the conclusion of this deal solidifies Global’s position as the number one commercial radio company in the UK, and enables our brands to continue to grow, extending their reach into all parts of the UK, making Global’s offering truly national.
