Background and Format: Bad Astronomy is a mainstream leisure interest blog that is based in New York and is predominantly aimed at a US audience; although some of the content is also relevant to US audiences. Slate say the following about Phil, "He has also written dozens of magazine articles and 12 bazillion blog articles. He is a skeptic and fights the abuse of science, but his true love is praising the wonders of real science." The blog is updated on a daily basis and posts are always in depth. The Blogger: The blog is Slate's official astronomy blog. Slate is a daily magazine on the Web. Founded in 1996, it is a general-interest publication offering analysis and commentary about politics, news, and culture. The creator of Bad Astronomy and Editor is Phil Plait, who is an astronomer, lecturer and author. After ten years working on Hubble Space Telescope data and six more working on astronomy education, he struck out on his own as a writer.
