Launched in May 2013, The Social Bookshelves blog is a book review blog by Dane Cobain.
The author of the blog, Dane, is a social media marketer, poet, musician and author as well as a blogger. Dane has been writing fiction, non-fiction, poetry and music for over ten years. His aim is for Social Bookshelves to distinct from other book reviewing blogs or websites by having the word count of reviews match the pages in the books. 182 words for an 182 page book. "There’s also the fact that too many book reviews are long-winded and unnecessarily detailed, particularly in the age of social media. I wanted to make sure that each review was short and sweet, but that I’d go in to more detail for longer works if required."
The blog consists of many reviews focusing on the genre of marketing, social media, non-fiction, beat-influenced poetry and literary fiction. Categories divide the books into Authors A-E by Surname, Authors F-J by Surname, Authors K-O by Surname, Authors P-T by Surname and Authors U-Z by Surname. More categories are Fiction, Magazine, Non-Fiction and Poetry. Other features is interviews in the form of Q&A with authors and guest posts. The most recent posts are "Yann Martel- Life of Pi Book Review" "Peter James Want You Dead Book Review" and "Gary Vaynerchuk The Thank You Economy Book Review."
