ViewTThe Daily ReflectorThe Daily Reflector has been a vital part of the life of Greenville, Pitt County, and eastern North Carolina for more than a century. The company was founded in 1882 by David Jordan Whichard and Julian R. Whichard, who bought the printing equipment from the proprietor of The Express, for whom they once worked. Moving the equipment into their mother's one-room schoolhouse, the brothers began their own weekly newspaper, "The Eastern Reflector". In 1885, David Jordan Whichard became sole owner and publisher of the newspaper. The name changed to "The Reflector" and it began daily publication on December 10, 1884. The Daily Reflector was purchased by Cox Newspapers in 1996. On January 5, 2009 long-time publisher Jordan "Jordy" Whichard III announced his resignation. In 2009, Cox sold its North Carolina newspapers, including the The Daily Reflector, the Rocky Mount Telegram and The Daily Advance in Elizabeth City, NC to Cooke Communications, a privately held family company headed by John Kent Cooke, son of Jack Kent Cooke. John Kent Cooke moved to the Greenville area to become president of Cooke Communications North Carolina and publisher of the The Daily Reflector. In September 2018 Adams Publishing Group, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, purchased the assets of Cooke Communications, including The Daily Reflector, the Rocky Mount Telegram and The Daily Advance in Elizabeth City, NC.
