Capital News Service serves as a source of Maryland state and federal government news for 14 daily newspapers and wire services, more than 60 weekly and monthly newspapers and newsletters, a news-radio station, a statewide public television network and several online services. The news service is operated by the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park. It is only in operation during the months school is in session, from August to May. Students' stories have appeared in The Washington Post, The Baltimore Sun and The Washington Times.

    The Wall Street Journal is considered the most widely-read periodical in the nation's business and investment community. Information in the paper is also distributed to many Dow Jones outlets, including news service and specialized financial and commodity reports. The lead time for feature and news coverage is one day to one week. The lead time for The Wall Street Journal Reports is three to five months, although stories are often developed during the two or three months immediately preceding the issue. The lead time for Marketplace and Enterprise is two months. Deadlines are at 5:30pm ET for in-depth business and Marketplace stories and 3pm ET for shorter stories.

    WRAL-TV

    WRAL-TV is the local NBC affiliate for the greater Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area. The station broadcasts locally on channel 5 and is a sister-station to Raleigh's Fox affiliate, WRAZ-TV. WRAL-TV hit the airwaves in 1956 as an NBC affiliate and switched to ABC affiliation in 1962. The station swapped networks again in 1985, this time with CBS, before returning to NBC in 2016.
