The Big Brother Watch Blog is a developing political weblog based in the UK. It is the official blog for Big Brother Watch, a blog that was set up to challenge policies that threaten our privacy, our freedoms and our civil liberties, and to expose the true scale of the surveillance state. Founded in 2009, they have produced unique research exposing the erosion of civil liberties in the UK, looking at the dramatic expansion of surveillance powers, the growth of the database state and the misuse of personal information. They campaign to give individuals more control over their personal data, and hold to account those who fail to respect our privacy, whether private companies, government departments or local authorities.
Big Brother Watch is a sister-site to The TaxPayers’ Alliance. The name Big Brother Watch originates from George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. The group campaigns on a variety of issues including the rise of CCTV, the database state, ID cards and airport body scanners. Blog content is written anonymously by the team. The blog can also be found on Vimeo here.
Topics on the blog include council snooping, the nanny state, privacy and DNA. As well as reporting on headline stories, many articles focus on local cases which have not reached the media at a national level.
There appear to be no regular PR opportunities as the Big Brother Watch Blog operates exclusively as a watchdog-website instead of a commercial platform. The team is however available for contact and can be reached via email, telephone or post. The team can also be reached on this number specifically for Journalists. +44 (0)7505 448 925.
