The American Psychoanalyst is published quarterly by the American Psychoanalytic Association. The newsletter publishes articles and essays that focus on contemporary social, political, and cultural forces as they relate to the practice of psychoanalysis in America; regular interviews with leading proponents of analysis inside and outside the American Psychoanalytic Association; and essays and reminiscences that chart the evolution of analysis in America. The newsletter publishes articles of uncommon interest that are rarely found in the journal literature. Recent issues include articles exploring programs for early childhood intervention, analysts' involvement in the political arena, and analysis in the halls of academia, as well as ongoing coverage of psychoanalytic education, psychoanalysis in the community, and the use of psychoanalytic thinking in nontraditional settings.
