853 is an individual political blog based in the UK.
853 was founded in October 2008 by London-based Writer and Blogger Darryl Chamberlain. Formerly a Journalist with the BBC. The blog has developed over the years to contain news and opinion about issues involving south-east London, particularly around Greenwich. Darryl says "It started in 2008 as a basic personal blog. I was about to take redundancy and wanted a place where I could show off a bit, and write about things like walking the Capital Ring. But after I attended a council meeting in 2009 and was struck by the barely-disguised contempt councillors were showing for the public – and how this had gone unreported locally – I realised I could use it to follow stories that weren’t being covered elsewhere."
The independently owned blog is updated several times a month and self-published. Recent entries on the blog include Dead cat on the line: How the Cannon Street train ‘plan’ distracts from the real issue of who runs our rail, Election 2017: Three to challenge Pennycook in Greenwich & Woolwich, Election 2017: Greens drop out of Eltham fight to stop Conservatives and Citymapper’s pop-up bus: Could it help fix SE London commuters’ woes? Posts are a maximum of 1,000 words and always feature original photography.
