The station broadcasts local news in the mornings and evenings, and is also available as a regional superstation via satellite and cable in the United States and Canada WPIX-TV made its debut in 1948 and operated independently until becoming an affiliate of The WB in 1995. In 2006 The WB merged with UPN and formed The CW. The station carried Yankees games from 1951 to 1998 before switching to the Mets in 1999. They resumed carrying the Yankees in 2015, becoming the only station to carry both teams at the same time.

WPIX-TV made its debut in 1948. In summer 1999, the station became the official television home of the New York Mets. The station reaches over 10 million homes through over-the-air and satellite distribution. The station's newscasts have earned two Edward R. Murrow Awards for best newscast. In addition, the station also received numerous Emmy and New York State Broadcasters Awards for news specials and instant breaking news coverage. WPIX-TV broadcasts local news in the mornings and evenings. Video clips are accepted on Beta SP. Deadlines for sending in press releases are on-going. PSA's may be mailed to the station, care of traffic. As of January 2011, the station has no sports department. In June 2009, WPIX-TV, WNYW-TV, and WCBS-TV agreed to participate in a Local News Service to pool video newsgathering resources. The local news service is run by an independent managing editor who will determine the stories to be covered each day by the news service.
