WGN-TV is an independent station in the Chicago market. The station is owned by Nexstar Media Group. WGN-TV broadcasts locally on channel 9, and covers local news, sports, and entertainment. It originally signed on the air in 1948 and is famous for creating such local icons as Ray Rayner, Garfield Goose and Bozo the Clown. In 1978, WGN-TV became a "superstation," broadcasting to cable viewers all around the country. In 1980, WGN-TV launched the Midwest's first hour-long newscast in prime-time, WGN News at Nine. WGN-TV became a WB affiliate in 1995, after years as an independent entity. The station later became a CW affiliate in 2006, before going back independent in September 2016. WMUR-TV is the ABC affiliate for the Boston market. The station is owned by Hearst Television, Inc. WMUR-TV broadcasts locally on channel 9. It debuted in March 1954 and was New Hampshire's first network-affiliated, commercial television station. Coverage extends to Cheshire, Strafford, Belknap, and most of Grafton and Carroll counties in New Hampshire, parts of Orange County in Vermont and most of York County in Maine. WMUR-TV produces several local newscasts for the mornings and evenings. The station airs simulcasts its 6pm newscasts on WTPL-AM and WTNS-AM. PR professionals should send submissions to the assignment desk via fax, and at least one hour before news time, or one half-hour after news time. Station will refer to the newsroom fax as its main fax number.
