About
Bio
The Quackometer is a developing healthcare blog based in the UK and launched in 2006. The Blogger originally developed an automated online tool of the same name to try and spot quack web sites just from the language they use. The blog has since become a popular destination for critical discussion of conventional health and medical wisdom.
The blog is written by Andy Lewis, who was recently voted the 80th most important tweeter on the web, according to a top 100 poll run by The Independent. To which they said, "Le Canard Noir is the alter-ego of sceptic blogger Andy Lewis whose feed and website, The Quackometer, call out those suspected of medical quackery." Andy lives in Gurney Slade, Somerset and has worked as a Sales Consultant for 12 years.
The blog takes a critical, at times satirical and sceptical view of medicine and healthcare. The Quackometer aims to seek out "quack" medicines that fill the internet, with Andy spotting common errors in arguments and news pieces. Readers are encouraged to post suspicious claims to The Quackometer and Andy will reply with his analysis of a particular medicine or debate. He also uses Twitter to challenge and draw attention to medical policy and to call out the actions of alternative medical practices and their failings.
Andy does not want to be contacted by PRs.
