The station broadcasts locally on channel 5 and is a sister-station to Raleigh's Fox affiliate, WRAZ-TV. WRAL-TV hit the airwaves in 1956 as an NBC affiliate and switched to ABC affiliation in 1962. The station swapped networks again in 1985, this time with CBS, before returning to NBC in 2016.

KTLA became one of the original affiliates of The WB in 1995, and later changed to The CW when The WB and UPN merged in 2006.
