The station produces several local newscasts throughout the day that feature hard news, weather, and sports from the greater Philadelphia area. In addition, there are several feature segments that air throughout the week. WPVI-TV first signed on-air as WFIL-TV in 1947. Before being picked up by ABC Television Network, WFIL was home to Dick Clark and American Bandstand (then known only as Bandstand) from 1952-57. The station assumed its current call letters in 1971.
