The blog was set up in 2007, although the Adam Smith Institute has been in existence since 1977. Its purpose was to educate the public about the free markets and economic policy, but to also inject sound ideas into public debate. The Adam Smith Institute Blog is a libertarian think tank which by its own admission, "engineers policies to create a freer, more prosperous society". According to its website it has seven key members, all doing different jobs, however Dr Madsen Pirie is the President, and is the only remaining founder. He is one of the most active contributors on the Blog. Blog posts cover a range of different issues, often very in depth and provide good knowledge on a matter of different subject matters. Some of the topics that are often discussed on the blog include religion, economics, politics, education, culture, healthcare and many more.
