WDAF-TV is the FOX affiliate for the Kansas City, MO market. The station is owned by Nexstar Media Group. WDAF-TV broadcasts locally on channel 4. WDAF-TV offers news, sports, and weather along with regular segments on health and consumer issues. The station debuted on October 16, 1949 and was the first station in Kansas City. It began as an NBC affiliate and went through multiple ownerships beginning with The Kansas City Star in 1949. It was later owned by National Missouri Television Inc. in 1958, Trancontinent Television Corporation in 1960, Taft Broadcasting in 1964, Citicasters in 1987, and New World Communications Group Inc. in 1994. In 1994, FOX announced that it would invest $500 million in New World, if it agreed to switch WDAF-TV's affiliation from NBC to FOX. The station changed hands again when FOX Television Stations Inc., a subsidiary of News Corporation Inc., acquired WDAF-TV on January 22, 1997. Local TV, LLC acquired the station in July 2008.
