Background and Format: The Press (York) is the local daily tabloid newspaper for North Yorkshire and parts of West and East Yorkshire, based in York. It was established as The Evening Press, a daily newspaper for Yorkshire, Durham and the adjoining counties by William Wallace Hargrove in 1882. From 1905 to 1996 it was named the Yorkshire Evening Press, then simply the Evening Press until 2006, when it switched to a morning publication. It changed from broadsheet to tabloid format in 2004. Some of it's editorial team contribute to the weekly Gazette & Herald (Ryedale & Malton). The online version of the paper consists of news & current affairs on a local and national scale, as well as, sports, education, environment, business, motoring, property news and what's on information.
