KSTP-TV is the ABC affiliate for the Minneapolis-St. Paul market and broadcasts locally on channel 5. Newscasts cover news, weather, and sports for the Twin Cities with an emphasis on local news and human-interest stories. KSTP-TV first broadcast in 1948, and was the first commercial television station in Minnesota. The station was originally an NBC affiliate until 1979 when it switched to ABC. KSTP is sister to Minneapolis-licensed independent station KSTC-TV, and operates satellite stations KSAX-TV in Alexandria, Minnesota and KRWF-TV in Redwood Falls, Minnesota.

KMSP-TV is a FOX affiliate for the Minneapolis-St. Paul market and broadcasts locally on channel 9. The station presents a variety of nationally syndicated FOX and local programming. The evening news cast includes local and national news, weather and traffic plus occasional feature segments on health, technology, entertainment, and consumer issues. Sister station and MyNetworkTV affiliate WFTC-TV shares some personnel and resources. KMSP-TV began broadcasting as KEYD-TV in 1955 and changed its call letters to KMGM-TV in 1956. The station assumed its current call letters in 1958 and operated independently until 1961 when affiliated with ABC. KMSP-TV returned to independent status in 1979 and became a regional superstation, available on nearly every cable system in Minnesota as well as large portions of North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin. KMSP-TV was one of the original charter affiliates of the newly-launched FOX Broadcasting Network in 1986. It lost this status in 1988 and again went independent before linking up with UPN in 1995. The station announced an affiliation switch back to FOX in 2002.
