Spoons on Trays
Spoons on Trays is blog responding to current exhibitions, galleries, conferences, books and sector discussions. It provides space for a series of thought-pieces and reviews. Katy explains that the name came about when 'I battled to establish myself in a small corner of the museum employment sector, my friends watched in bemusement, unsure of what I was actually doing with my time. It became, I’m not sure where from, a running joke that my curatorial profession involved arranging objects on trays, specifically spoons, which would be secured with a hot glue gun to ensure no further re-arrangement need ever be attempted. The standard mode of enquiry for how my work was going became "how are the spoons?"' The blog posts are written by Katy Barrett. a historian, curator and digital media enthusiast. Pieces are aimed at a general audience. Katy is the Curator of Art, pre-1800 at Royal Museums Greenwich who is interested in the intersections between histories of art and science. She has worked in a number of national and university museums, and reads about and visits collections insatiably. Entries in the Spoons on Trays blog concentrate on categories such as museums, collections, exhibitions, objects and books. Recent entries include Silent Partners: Mannequins at the Fitz, A reward-ing experience?, Museums Change Lives, Transforming Landscape Painting, Physician, philanthropist, collector: ‘The Generous Georgian’ in threeobjects and The National Trust gets brutal. PR opportunities include news, reviews and interviews related to Arts.
