In 2006, Retail Newsagent backed a number of campaigns, such as the Crackdown on Counterfeiting tobacco series and the Independent Achievers Academy business development initiative. This year will see more campaigning for independents, via news reports and roundtable discussions. The title has also revamped its magazine coverage, focusing on easier navigation and essential business tools for news and magazine retailers. Background and Format: Launched in 2003 as an internet only service in 2003 called VIP on air, the station was later re-launched as Insight Radio in March of 2007, appearing first on 101 FM in Glasgow, then on Sky Channel 0188, Freesat 777 and now Freeview 730. Insight Radio broadcasts to the UK, Europe and the World from studios in Scotland and from our satellite studios across the UK. RNIB Connect Radio was Europe's first radio station for blind and partially sighted people. It offers everything from the daily newspapers, interviews, eye health information, blind sport, showbiz gossip and music. Owner: RNIB Connect Radio Target Audience: Blind and partially sighted people, and others who struggle to access printed news and information such as people with dyslexia or learning difficulties, across the UK. Stats: Listening figures are not available. Insight Radio is not registered on RAJAR. Top Tips for PRs: RNIB's Insight Radio is primarily a speech-based service, with around 65 per cent of programming dedicated to topical discussion, news and literature. Programming is focused on providing a visual picture of news and information, to provide blind people with access that is denied to them when published in print. Live programming output will typically comprise 65% speech and the remainder music ('speech' excludes advertising, programme / promotional trails and sponsor credits). Insight Radio will usually broadcast a live 9-hour schedule from 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday. Eight hours of this output will usually be produced locally. Programming at weekends will be a compilation of material voice-tracked. Programmes will be presented by blind and/or partially sighted individuals at all times. Blind and/or partially sighted producers will also be involved in broadcast output. Speech output will typically include news and current affairs, a newsread/magazine supplement focusing on human interest issues, an audio books programme, feature programming on issues such as health, technology and business, and programmes from other regions/ countries that will be of relevance to the target community.
