WXYZ-TV is the ABC affiliate for the Detroit market. The station is owned by E.W. Scripps Co. WXYZ-TV broadcasts locally on channel 7. WXYZ-TV was founded in October 1948 and was one of only three ABC stations that existed in the country. Local news airs mornings and evenings on weekdays. Weekend newscasts air during the evenings only. The assignment desk is available 24 hours a day and can be reached by phone or fax. Keep faxes short and to-the-point and include: who, what, when, where, and why. In addition, clearly list contact information on each page. The station accepts 10, 15, and 20-second PSAs in Beta and DVC Pro formats. The station does not accept VNRs. In April 2009, WXYZ-TV and WJBK-TV formed an independently run local news service (LNS), sharing news gathering resources to provide pool coverage of non-exclusive events. The local news service is run by an independent managing editor who will determine the stories to be covered each day by the news service.
