WSBK-TV is an independent station serving the Boston market and airs locally on channel 38. PR professionals should send news submissions to the assignment desk of sister-station WBZ-TV. WSBK-TV was originally licensed to the Boston Catholic Television Center as WIHS-TV in 1964, and featured a mix of educational, religious, entertainment and sports programming. The station assumed its current call letters in 1966, becoming the first commercial independent station in Boston. WSBK-TV soon expanded its sports coverage, securing broadcast rights to the Boston Bruins in 1967 and the Red Sox in 1975, and grew in regional popularity as a result. In the late 1980's it became a national superstation. WSBK-TV was sold to Paramount in 1995 and became a UPN (United Paramount Network) affiliate later that year. When UPN and The WB combined to form The CW in 2006, the station returned to independent operations before becoming a MyNetworkTV affiliate in 2011. It went independent for a third time in 2022.
