KSTP-TV first broadcast in 1948, and was the first commercial television station in Minnesota. The station was originally an NBC affiliate until 1979 when it switched to ABC. WXYZ-TV is the ABC affiliate for the Detroit market. The station is owned by E.W. Scripps Co. WXYZ-TV broadcasts locally on channel 7. WXYZ-TV was founded in October 1948 and was one of only three ABC stations that existed in the country. Local news airs mornings and evenings on weekdays. Weekend newscasts air during the evenings only. The assignment desk is available 24 hours a day and can be reached by phone or fax. The station accepts 10, 15, and 20-second PSAs in Beta and DVC Pro formats. The station does not accept VNRs. In April 2009, WXYZ-TV and WJBK-TV formed an independently run local news service (LNS), sharing news gathering resources to provide pool coverage of non-exclusive events. The local news service is run by an independent managing editor who will determine the stories to be covered each day by the news service.

KCBS-TV is the CBS affiliate for the Los Angeles market. KCBS-TV broadcasts locally on channel 2. The station was originally licensed and constructed by Don Lee Inc. in 1931, as an experimental station with the call letters W6XAO. In 1948, W6XAO was officially declared a full commercial station and adopted the call letters KTSL-TV. In 1951, Columbia Broadcasting System bought the station and changed the call letters again to KNXT-TV. Although the station had ties to CBS and CBS programming since the 1950s, it did not officially become the CBS affiliate until 1984. KCBS-TV merged news operations with KCAL-TV in July 2002 and promotes KCAL-TV as it's main local news station, with KCBS airing KCAL-branded newscasts. Together, KCBS and KCAL are known as KCAL News.

KMEX-TV is the Univision affiliate for the Los Angeles market. The station is owned by Univision Communications Inc. KMEX-TV broadcasts locally on channel 34. Local news airs weekdays and weekends. It is the sister station of KFTR-TV in Los Angeles, the UniMas affiliate on channel 46. KMEX-TV was founded on September 29, 1962 as Southern California's first UHF station. KMEX-TV has been Los Angeles' premier Spanish-language television station since then: educating, entertaining, and informing the Hispanic community on the latest events and news. Since its birth, the station has been a pioneer in many aspects. It was the first to change successfully from film to videotape and use satellite transmission in the Los Angeles news market. KMEX-TV was also the first station nationally to create a Spanish-language morning talk show, Los Angeles al Dia, airing for more than a decade. KMEX-TV's news department has received numerous journalistic awards throughout the years. In 1996, Noticias 34 received six Golden Mike Awards by the Radio & TV News Association of Southern California, and was the recipient of the Los Angeles Area Governor's Emmy Award given by the Board of Governors of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS).
