KMAX-TV is a local Sacramento-based CW affiliate. The station is owned by CBS Broadcasting Inc., and broadcasts locally on channel 31. KMAX-TV debuted on October 15, 1974 as KMUV-TV. The first family to own and operate the station was the Lear family. They formatted the station to air movies only. Soon after, it went on to air sitcoms, classic reruns, and later, Spanish programming.
