It was founded by broadcasting pioneer John E. Fetzer. In 1950, Fetzer turned his station WKZO-AM into a television station. WKZO-TV 3 (WWMT's name at the time) went on the air June 1, 1950. Six years later, the station moved to its current home on West Maple Street in Kalamazoo, MI. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, a variety of local live shows were offered. From Monday through Friday, kids were the stars of Channel 3 Clubhouse, which aired until 1983. On Saturday, Rem Wall and the Green Valley Boys were shown on the Green Valley Jamboree.
