LLSE Blogs - PolisUnited Kingdom
Polis is the blog for The London School of Economics' journalism think-tank of the same name, which is a part of the Department of Media and Communications, aimed at working journalists, people in public life and students in the UK and around the world. Polis has a dual mission - in its own words to - "provide a forum for public debate and policy intervention on key issues of news journalism" and "produce outstanding research on the impact of mediation and journalism in our societies". Charlie Beckett is the Founding Director of Polis. He is also the author of ‘SuperMedia’ (published by Blackwell) and ‘WikiLeaks: News In The Networked Era’ (Polity). He has worked in news and current affairs programmes at the BBC, LWT and Channel 4 News at ITN. He says: "I went in to journalism because I think that it matters how our world is reported. With all the technological and commercial changes in journalism and all the social, environmental and political changes in society, I think that journalism matters even more now." The posts are written by a combination of current students, interns, as well as Lecturers and LSE associates. Sections on the site include Director's Commentary, Research, Events, Videos, Interviews and Podcasts, as well as Summer School. Posts are hosted several times a month. The Polis team also hosts talks and debates. PR opportunities may be limited due to the nature of the site but relevant news may be welcomed - and Charlie and the team can be reached via email.
