KGTV-TV is the ABC network affiliate in the San Diego market. The station is owned by E.W. Scipps Co. KGTV-TV broadcasts locally on channel 10. The station was first licensed as KFVW-TV 1220 AM on June 2, 1925. However, it did not debut until March 27, 1926 with only 500 watts. Then less than a month later, it changed its call letters to KFSD-TV and increased its power to 1000 watts. Then on September 13, 1953, it became KFSD-TV, until 1961 when it became KOGO-TV. KOGO-TV changed its call letters again in 1972 to its current call letters, KGTV-TV. In 1987, KGTV-TV was the first TV station to present closed-captioning of newscasts in "real-time".
