The station made its debut on September 20, 1954. KETC-TV was the seventh educational station launched in the country and the second to be supported financially by the community. The station broadcasts 24-hours of programming per day. Daytime programming is geared towards children and evening programs caters to an adult audience. The station produces original programming for regional, national, and international distribution. The station offers non-commercial programming. According to the station's Web site, "From September to December 1999, KETC-TV was the most watched PBS station in the country." KETC-TV won a regional television Emmy award for station excellence in 2008.
