In 1955, the San Antonio Express-News bought KEYL-TV changed its name to KENS-TV. The station was bought by Houston Harte and Benard Hanks in 1962. In December 1997, it was purchased by Belo Corp. This station's news department has earned numerous awards, including honors from the Texas Associated Press and several Edward R. Murrow Awards, including Best Newscast.
