The station originally launched under the call letters KLAC-TV on September 17, 1948. KCOP-TV was an independent station owned by the New York Post. In 1953, the New York Post sold it to Copley Press, which owned a chain of newspapers. In 1956, it was sold once again to a group of investors headed by Bing Crosby. Then, it was sold to Chris-Kraft Industries in 1960 and changed its call letters to KCOP-TV. In 2001, KCOP-TV was purchased by FOX, the station's current owner. Over the years the station has won numerous awards such as Edward R Murrow awards, Emmys and Regional Best awards.
