FFresh on the NetUnited Kingdom
Background & Format: Launched in 2009, Fresh on the Net is a mainstream group blog about "independent musicians." The blog provides a mixture of content about the music industry with the bloggers writing about matters of interest. Many posts are summaries of fresh batches of new music and may include photographs as well as soundfiles and lists of the artists and songs sent that week. Others consist of musicians' accounts of live performances at venues throughout London, interviews with musicians and links to a mixtape website to upload music. The blog also provides tips on how the music industry works to advise artists on how to promote themselves. The Bloggers: Fresh on the Net is written by musician Tom Robinson who started the blog along with his presenting on BBC Radio 6. He has since been joined by a team. "Over the years our team of volunteers has evolved into an online community of music enthusiasts with a wide range of tastes and ages ranging from 16 to 66. Our mission is to help independent musicians find new listeners, and independent listeners find new music." PR Opportunities: PR opportunities are available in the form of submitting tracks to the dropbox from Monday to Thursday for the team to listen and review. The blog writes: "Fresh On The Net is 100% independent – with no advertising, commercial sponsors, or connections with record industry. We don’t have any link with the BBC, other than the fact that they pay Tom’s wages and he subsidises this blog. Our job isn’t to find the latest Hot New Acts or predict the Stars Of Tomorrow. Our job is to listen to the music you send us – and help the most interesting tunes each week find a wider audience." The team can be best be reached via this page.
