FOX 5 DC
WTTG-TV is a FOX affiliate for the Washington, D.C. market. The station is owned by FOX Broadcasting Company. WTTG-TV broadcasts locally on channel 5. The station debuted on May 19, 1945 as the first television station in Washington, D.C. The call letters then were W3XWT. "W" stood for North America, "3" represented the region of the country, "X" symbolized that the station was experimental, and "WT" stood for the station's call letters. On November 29, 1946, the FCC granted a commercial license to the station and it was renamed WTTG. The commercial license meant that the station now had the ability to sell advertising. The station has claimed a number of broadcasting firsts. WTTG was the first television station to broadcast a live sporting event (the Senators baseball game in 1948), the first to telecast from the Grace Episcopal Church in New York in 1946, and Bob Wolff became the first television sportscaster in the Washington, D.C., area. The station prefers to receive press releases a day in advance of an event. Video clips are accepted on DVC Pro and Beta SP format. Do not call the station during the newscasts.
