In 2016 The Independent announced that it was moving to a digital only format, and that the i paper would be sold to Johnston Publishing. The official switchover of publishers happened on the 11th of April 2016, after which a Northern Ireland edition of the paper also began production.

In January 2006, CBS Corporation created CBS Vision, a research unit designed to explore and offer insight on emerging technologies, media consumption patterns and advertising value in the media marketplace, and to share that knowledge with all CBS Corporation divisions as well as outside clients and potential partners. CBS also offers a new media wireless service called CBS News To Go. This offering, for a subscription fee, allows viewers to obtain breaking news alerts in both video and picture formats. The service also allows viewers to receive information from Entertainment Tonight. This service became available in March 2006. In August 2006, CBS News expanded its medical and health coverage with a partnership with WebMD, the leading provider of online health information for consumers and physicians. The partnership was designed to provide CBS Evening News, The Early Show and CBSNews.com with its daily content and resources, including interactive tools for diagnosis and healthy living. CBS began broadcasting in 1948.
