EESPN DeportesUnited States of America
ESPN Deportes is a 24-hour, Spanish-language, cable television network dedicated exclusively to sports. ESPN Deportes began in 2000 when ESPN and MLB offered Spanish-language telecasts of the Home Run Derby and a small number of Sunday Night Baseball games. Starting in 2001, ESPN Deportes began offering full Sunday night schedules of Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Football League (NFL) and exclusive boxing matches. Following the January 7, 2004 launch, ESPN Deportes plans to showcase more than 200 live events in its first year, including National Basketball Association (NBA), NFL, and MLB games. ESPN Deportes will also offer a new Spanish-language production of SportsCenter. The roster of programs will also include Fuera de Juego, a round table discussion of the world of soccer; Perfiles, which offers revealing interviews with Latin American sports stars; Goles de Espana, a Spanish soccer analysis and highlights show; and NFL Semanal and RPM Semanal, which will offer weekly insights into the NFL and the world of auto racing. PR professionals are advised to fax press releases involving breaking news, event coverage, or feature story ideas to the assignment desk. Each assignment editor at ESPN covers a specific beat, however anyone at the desk can receive the information and allocate it appropriately. If a press release is intended for a particular producer or reporter, indicate as such and it will be filtered appropriately. Most ESPN assignment editors and producers prefer to receive press releases by fax or e-mail. ESPN requests that pitches be specific and related to the sports that they cover. Based in Bristol, CT, the network is 80 percent owned by ABC Inc., which is an indirect subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. The Hearst Corporation holds the remaining 20 percent. According to ESPN, the network reaches approximately 80 million homes
