Established in 1979 as a regional entertainment and lifestyle magazine written for the affluent East Bay, which is a group of suburbs about a half hour east of San Francisco. covers inspirational gardens, restaurants, artists, lifestyle, regional issues, theater events, as well as activities and events to do around town in an effort to entertain and inform its readers. Regular sections include: Travel, covering destinations and attractions on the West Coast; Speak of the Devil, offering "hip short notes on the people, places, and things that make Diablo Country like no other place in the world;" At the Table, covering San Francisco Bay-area restaurants and cuisine; Wine Picks, reviewing wines; and Green Grocer, covering cooking ingredients such as garlic and shiitake mushrooms.
