Science Update blog is a blog co-written by three of Cancer Research UK’s professional science communicators. The aim of the blog is to “cover the latest cancer research, including that funded by the charity” and highlight relevant material “debunking myths and media scares”. The three Bloggers are Henry Scowcroft, Kat Arney and Oliver Childs. Henry studied Biochemistry at university and eventually worked his way into science journalism, Kat has been with Cancer Research UK since 2004 and previously spent six years as a Laboratory Researcher, Oliver studied Natural Sciences at Bath University. After graduating, he then spent several years working in science publishing in various editorial roles, including as Copy Editor of Nature Reviews Cancer. Blog posts are news and research-led and are highly scientific and factual. Posts can be sectioned into dozens of categories regarding cancer news, information, policy, and research, and can be viewed by type of cancer. The blog would be of interest to the general public as well as healthcare professionals. PR opportunities lie within scientific research placement. Although the blog posts do cover Cancer Research UK’s own news and progress, they do also cover external research.
