Frequency: 3 times a year Aims of the journal: The Communication Matters Journal offers a multidisciplinary perspective of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and is published three times a year in the UK. Members of Communication Matters automatically receive the journal. This is not an academic or peer-reviewed journal. Content: The Journal contains a collection of articles written by people who use AAC, parents, and experienced AAC practitioners – teachers, therapists, engineers, researchers and others – mostly from the UK. There are usually about eight major articles (each about two to four pages long) in each issue. The articles are on a mixture of different topics, including both low and high tech AAC, and AAC use by children and/or adults: Clinical/educational practice Case studies Newly developed AAC systems Recent or in-progress AAC research Although the content topics are specialist, most articles are quite practical, and the style of the magazine is informal and easy to read. Articles written by people who use AAC and parents/families are actively welcomed. As much as possible, articles are accompanied by photos, tables, graphs, symbols and other illustrations. The Journal comprises: Articles, papers & case studies News and reviews of new books, software and AAC products News about ISAAC, and ISAAC events and publications Feedback from readers News from the UK branch of ISAAC and information about courses, conferences, etc. A few pages of advertisements of AAC equipment from British manufacturers/suppliers Manuscript Submission: The Editors are keen to receive and publish articles (written or translated into English) by ISAAC members from outside the UK. Once they have established that the article is of relevance to CM Journal, they may contact the Editors before submitting a manuscript of 2000 words or less.
