Newsbeat is produced by BBC News but differs from the BBC's other news programmes in its remit to provide news tailored for a specifically younger audience. The 15-minute Newsbeat programme is broadcast at 12:45pm and 5:45pm during the week on Radio 1 and 1Xtra. Short bulletins are also heard throughout the day on both stations on the half hour with extra bulletins broadcast at peak times. The Newsbeat team provide bespoke national and international new bulletins - weekdays at 6:00am, 7:30am, 8:00am, 8:30am and 9:30am. The 1Xtra host replaces current presenter Gemma Cairney, who will become Social Action Presenter on Radio 1. Gemma will present The Surgery on Wednesdays, 9:00-10:00pm, alongside Dr Radha, and special documentaries for Radio 1 and 1Xtra Stories on Tuesdays, 9:00-10:00pm.
