Bristol BitesUnited KingdomBristol Bites is a commercial blog launched in January of 2010 with the aim of becoming “the definitive guide to food and drink in Bristol, offering those living in and visiting Bristol a single source for all the information that they need”. The blog combines reviews, launch news and events in Bristol with recipes and other culinary miscellany. Founder and Editor Emily Knight is originally from Essex. She later moved to London for five years and has now been living in Bristol since August 2009. She says: “I have a keen interest in food, its sources and origins, cooking, eating out and, most importantly, finding new ways of expanding my knowledge and experience in this area.” When Emily first started working on the blog she had not been in Bristol for very long and was keen to spend more time exploring the area. She says: “I don’t think I had realised just how much Bristol has to offer, and so decided to create a blog on the subject. Not only to catalogue my own journey, but to share my discoveries with others, and hopefully learn from these others too!” Posts take various forms and include news, reviews and other features detailing restaurants, what’s on and services available locally. The majority of blog posts are written in a chatty style with some written from personal experience. Reviews vary in length giving information on a service or event with additional links to related external websites or contact information. Sections include News, Reviews, What's On, Recipes, Best of Bristol, Bites Services, as well as Bristol Bites Directory. The new site builds on the original Bristol Bites blog and is the culmination of six months of planning by Blogger Emily Knight and Chris Brown, Editor of online newspaper Bristol 24-7. The site features all the original content of the blog including reviews, a calendar of events, profiles of local businesses and details of local offers, but also includes some new additions. The new directory is a searchable database of Bristol-based food and drink businesses including pubs, pop-up restaurants, shops and local supper clubs. A review of each listing will be published where available and users will be able to post their own reviews and ratings on each business’ listing page.
