The Big Issue is a British weekly social‑purpose magazine/street newspaper that combines news, features, current affairs, reviews and campaigning journalism with the mission of giving homeless and vulnerably housed people the opportunity to earn a legitimate income by selling the publication on the streets and through subscriptions. It covers social issues (including homelessness, poverty and welfare), culture (films, music, arts) and general interest articles from a socially aware perspective.

Background and Format: Launched in 1992 originally as a supplement within the London magazine, Big Issue North is published by the The Big Life Group weekly and is aimed at residents in the  North West and Yorkshire and Humber.
