About
Bio
Julia Hailes MBE is a pioneering environmental campaigner, writer and consultant who has been working in sustainability since 1986. She is co-author, with John Elkington, of The Green Consumer Guide, one of the first books to bring environmental thinking into everyday consumer choices, and co-founder of SustainAbility, a trailblazing organisation that helped put corporate sustainability on the global agenda.
Over four decades, Julia has worked with businesses, governments and NGOs worldwide to drive practical change on climate, waste and sustainable living. She was awarded a United Nations Global 500 Award in recognition of her contribution to environmental awareness.
She is currently a director of Rubbish Ideas, a circular economy venture focused on reducing waste and rethinking resource use in events and beyond. Through her independent work, she focuses on circular economy solutions, regenerative thinking, and bold, practical approaches to climate and environmental challenges – including emerging ideas such as solarpunk and disruptive innovation. She covers Environment, Climate Change, Sustainable Living, Waste & Recycling, Circular Economy, Energy & Renewable Energy, Environmental Policy, Green Economy, Nature & Wilding.
Today, she works as a writer, speaker and strategic catalyst – supporting and amplifying initiatives that accelerate the transition to a more sustainable, circular and nature-positive economy, while maintaining a strong focus on real-world impact.
